"Oh, I haven't dealt in anything as common as money for years" "Then how do they pay you for the pleasure of your company?" "With secrets. ... What about you, girl on fire? Do you have any secrets worth my time?" My love, you have my heart for all eternity and if… If I die in that Arena… my last thought will be of your lips. |

This is a bad time to pronounce the word 'love.' No matter, I pronounce it, and I glorify it. Love, yours is the future. Death, I use you, but I hate you. Citizens, in the future there shall be neither darkness nor thunderbolts, neither ferocious ignorance nor blood for blood. As Satar shall be nore more, so Michael shall be no more. In the future no man will slay his fellow, the earth will be radiant, the human race will love. It will come, citizens, that day when all shall be concord, harmony, light, joy, and life; it will come. And it is so that it may come that we are going to die. |

Listen to the panegyric that neighbors deliver on each other. White on white is ferocious; if the lily spoke, how it would fix the dove! A bigot gossiping about a devotee is more venomous than the asp and the blue viper. Such a pity I'm ignorant or I'd quote you a mass of things, but I don't know anything ... I don't give a damn about your perfections, excellences, and good qualities. Every good quality runs into a defect; economy borders on avarice, the generous are far from prodigal, the brave man is close to the bully; he who is very pious is slightly sanctimonious; There are just as many vices in virtue as there are holes in the mantle of Diogenes. |

"You know what's dangerous about you? It's not that you make people take risks, it's that you make them want to impress you. You make it so they don't want to let you down. You have no idea how dangerous you make people to themselves when you're around." There's a man who's never going to let us down, and not even an army can get in the way. He's the last of his kind. He looks young, but he's lived for hundreds and hundreds of years. And wherever they take you, Melody, however scared you are, I promise you, you will never be alone, because this man is your father. He has a name, but the people of our world know him better... as The Last Centurion. |

Are you serious? It was never that Alex liked solitary. It had been safer for everyone while he was in there. He couldn't hurt anyone if there was no one around to hurt. Alex knew all too well how dangerous his powers were. It was everyone else who seemed to miss that fact. He could remember each and every time he had used his powers with a clarity that he remembered few other things. He had caused death and destruction with horror at his own inability to control it. Letting his emotions get the better of him had become a weakness and a danger. It wasn't the only reason Alex had started bottling up his emotions and locking them away for the protection of himself and others, but it was one of the larger reasons. |

Predation is an instinct. A natural balance to an unnatural world. The strong devour the weak to stay strong, the weak cower to survive. It isn't a fair system. Odds are usually weighted in the favor of the predator. But they can only survive so long as the weak are there for them to consume. You're only at the top of the food chain until someone comes along who fancies a meal of you. It's not personal. It's just the way the world works. |
